Why is alcoholism different than a smoking addiction?
Quitting

Why is it harder for an alcoholic to stop drinking alcohol than it is for a smoker to stop smoking cigarettes? I know alcoholism is a disease while smoking is an addiction...

Thanks!
I'm not asking if it's a disease or not. I know for a fact it's a disease and there is near-countless scientific data to prove so.

Now, any real answers from someone who actually knows what they're talking about?

Alcohol addiction can harm your health. Many people have lost jobs, homes, and loved ones simply because they could not tame thier alcohol habit. I suggest you find some help. How can I simulate addiction to smoking?
Young Blond Female Smoker

I am working on a project that relates to addiction to smoking and how a person goes about with breaking this habit. I am not addicted to nicotine, I do not smoke tobacco on a regular basis, and I do not wish to for the purposes of this project. Is there any other way I can simulate the effects of addiction to smoking on a person? I have heard of certain ways to simulate this like running around a track breathing only through a drinking straw. Are there any other ways I can simulate addiction to smoking without actually doing so?

Start smoking a pipe with good pipe tobacco. Pipe smoking is a great and relaxing hobby.

What is the best cure for a smoking addiction?
Young Blond Female Smoker

I currently smoke about a pack a day. I have tried cutting it down to 5 or 6 a day..but I can't seem to stick to it.

here is the cure.

10 days of hell. Forget about cutting down. Cold turkey is the ONLY way to quit.

By the end of the second day, it will be tough....but you are tough....3rd day, you will be wanting to pull the hair out of your head....4th day gets a bit easier,....and then easier and then finally the 10th day is here..and you're like HEY I don't even NEED a smoke.

Now it becomes a question of will power. Don't worry, once the nicotine is out of your system, you wont even be thinking about a smoke with your coffee, newspaper..etc...you will be done..alll you have to to is one thing and one thing only.

Don't ever think you will be able to smoke another cigarette again. If you do, you will be addicted all over again.

you can't stick to cutting down, because you body NEEDS the pack of nicotine per day.

SMOKE FREE for 6.5 years. It took me a lot of attempts to
finally stay off of them. You will just have to remember not to smoke when you have a drink!! Or anytime.

Lets say you have a moment of weakness...you you are out drinking and are hammered...so you bum a smoke..then you smoke a pack....in half an hour....what do you do when you wake up??? You say Oh I still don't smoke...you fight every urge you have to light up once you are sober...you say oh that was just a dumb mistake..now I know for sure I'm addicted......
SO fight that urge to light up sober...do anything you can...in a day or two your slip will just be a memory and you will ba back on track. If you light a cigarette when you are sober, you will be back into smoking again. BIG time.

Smoking addiction is an uncontrollable dependence on cigarettes to the point where stopping smoking would cause severe emotional, mental, or physical reactions. Research on why people smoke shows that smoking behavior is multifaceted. The factors that influence smoking initiation are different from those of smoking behavior. Nicotine dependence, genetic factors, and psychosocial factors influence smoking behavior. Nicotine is a highly addictive drug and also a potent psychoactive drug that induces a euphoric, reinforces its own use, and the user suffers from withdrawal syndromes when not in use. Nicotine possesses two very potent qualities, a stimulant, but also a depressant. This addiction affects the mood and performance of the user.
