Is it possible to quit smoking without gaining weight?

I want to quit smoking again, but I am hesitant since the last time I quit I gained a bunch of weight. Any suggestions or success stories??

So what, you gain a little weight...it's still better than being a smoker.
Just consider all the benefits:

You'll smell better
Your home will smell better
Your car will smell better
You can get rid of all those filthy ashtrays
Your pets will love you once more
You'll taste better (kisses)
You'll have fresh breath again
Your teeth will get white again
You're health will improve
You'll be able to taste food once again
You'll have more friends
You'll be invited to more parties and social events
And...think of all the money you'll save

Oh, and here's a plus, you'll live much, much longer.

How can I quit smoking without gaining weight?

ok, I am in the NAVY and I need to keep weight down. I run between 3 or 4 miles a day. I work out with weights and do alittle calisthenics (200 push ups , 100 inverted sit ups and etc.) But here is the issue, i researched and found out that your body burns 100 calories extra a day when smoking. How do I actually bypass that without gaining huge amounts of weight?

As a few other people said, 100 calories burned extra a day isn't much. Especially because of all the exercise you're doing already. I smoke as well, and when I stop I seem to eat about 500 calories more/day. I started chewing gum every time I had the urge for a cigarette, or for something to eat. This helped a lot, mostly because I wasn't -really- hungry, I just wanted something for flavor, or to chew on. So, I'd recommend chewing gum. (It's only 5 calories a piece normally, and there's not many pieces in a pack, so you can easily go through one pack a day without worrying much. Plus, I dunno' if this is an old wives tale, but it burns calories chewing. :P)

And besides, if you're in the navy, doing all of the running, push-ups, sit ups and all that, the last thing you should worry about is a few calories from gum. You could probably get away with eating 2,000 calories a day (depending on your height and weight, of course).

How do you quit smoking without gaining weight?

I know that quitting slows your metabolism down, and last time i quit I gained about 5 lbs, without eating any more than usual. Any Natural way?

Quitting doesn't slow your metabolism down. it's the withdrawal symptoms that some people use food to try to eliminate that causes them to gain weight... That added to the fact that food starts to taste better shortly after quitting smoking...

If you want to avoid gaining weight, pick up your activity level whenever you have the urge to smoke... jog, run, walk, bike, anything that gets you moving.....

How to quit smoking without gaining any weight?

I will not eat more than I usually do when I quit smoking. But I know my body will no longer spend calories to detoxify itself from the cigarettes - so I might gain weight. (right?)

How can I stop it?

I'd just suggest changing your eating habits to something that works for your body. Exchange cigarettes for, eating lower carbs.. or adding a daily walk to your routine. As long as you watch your calorie intake, and your carb intake, or add a walk to your day, you should remain the same size. Besides, you might not gain weight simply from stopping smoking.. everyone is diffferent and reacts differently. Good luck, see how you react, and if it's negatively just change some habits around. It's worth it!

Did you quit smoking without gaining weight?

If so how did you do it? I really want to quit smoking more than ever. I have been smoking for about 9 years. I now smoke 20 a day.
I have tried the gum, inhalers and patches and they haven't worked.
I have read the Allen Carr book and i think it is great and i now have more determination than ever to quit.....but i haven' t yet.
The problem is i am so fearful of putting on weight. I know that quitting is still healthier than putting on weight but it is so ingrained in my brain.
Does anyone have any tips? Thanks.

I did gain weight when I quit once, but I really substitued the cigarettes for m&m's, etc, then when I ended up smoking again, the weight did not come off. You will not gain weight if you don't go and eat handfuls of chocolate instead. I found that when I quit again and didn't subsitute I did not gain any weight. But prepare with herbal no-calories teas, or similar, when you just have to have something.
