I've been hypnotised before but has anyone had success at quiitting smoking through hypnosis? How can I find a reputable hypnotist and how much can I expect to pay.
Thanks all
I was hypnotised 25 years ago to give up smoking - it worked for as long as I was having hypnosis. Luckily, mine was done free by an anaesthetist who was looking for guinea pigs to practice on so he could use it for pain relief for patients. I'm glad I didn't pay though, otherwise I would have had an expensive habit and an expensive therapy.
I eventually gave up the day my mum died from cancer which was the day after I found out I was pregnant and at the same time as we were really struggling financially. A really bad time in my life. I figured that I was always 'waiting for the right time' which never happened, so why not try a really bad time instead. That was 22 years ago and I've never looked back.
I have trich and i am really tired of feeling like i look like crap! I have tried everything from putting tape on the tips of my fingers to therapy...but nothing seems to work! its really difficult not to start play with a hair and then just pull it out! My High School Psych teacher quit smoking through hypnosis and i thought i would look into it.
(if you don't know what Trichotillomania is do your research and then you'll know what i am talking about)
Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.
Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

1. I've heard of some who go through one private session and never smoke again. I found one local therapist who does it, but at 5-8 sessions. Why would you need so many sessions?
2. Of course I want to quit smoking but the "want" is not there in my head (smokers should understand my meaning) If I am not mentally prepared, if the "want" is not there in my head, will hypnosis still be beneficial to quit smoking?
Hello Misty
As a hypnotherapist myself you have more chance of gaining your dream to be a non smoker with sessions, rather than a one off. One off's can tend to fail for most as it does not always address all of the aspects that the individual has that keep them a smoker.
Hypnosis & NLP can help you to create that 'want'.
I hope that you get on well with your chosen therapist & become a happy, healthy non smoker as a result - good luck.

My husband and i really want to quit smoking. So tonight we are going to a get hypnotized for quitting smoking and losing weight. It is funded through the City here *FREE*. I have been hypnotized before (for fun at a convention) like 7 years ago and and i am an easy hypnoitzee. My question is, Does my being hypnotized before make this more likely to work for me? And is there ANYTHING i can do to make myself more susceptible for this to work? I really really am ready to do this. I have also lost 44 pounds so far on my own. Will this ACTUALLY work on Smoking and Weight loss?
You have a couple things going for you from what I can see. You have experienced hypnosis before, and you know you can experience it. You also seem very motivated to stop smoking.
These are both very important things.
As for other things you can do, you've done the two biggest things. You are already highly motivated. When your in the session, accept the suggestion given, and try no to analyze, just go with the flow.
And yes, it does work. You sounds like an excellent candidate! :)
Quit Smoking Hypnosis Delivers Long Term Results | Stop Smoking Blog
Quit smoking hypnosis programs address behaviors that quit smoking drugs don’t. Drugs might help you get through the physical nicotine withdrawal symptoms more easily than quitting cold turkey. But if you really want to quit smoking, hypnosis programs do a better job long-term
One of the reasons for the low success rate of non-smoking drugs long-term, is that they don’t address your “smoking rituals”. If you’ve ever tried these stop smoking drugs yourself, you’ll know what I’m talking about
Sure, you slap a patch on your arm or your hip, and it takes the edge off of the nicotine cravings. but you still have the feeling that you should be smoking when you’re sitting in that favorite chair and where you see that cut crystal ashtray sitting on the table, or when you finish a meal.
