How long after you quit smoking will nicotine show up in a blood test?
stop smoking!

My life insurance company wants to do a blood test for, among other things, nicotine. I quit nearly five months ago, will it still show up? I'd like to be considered a non-smoker, and I have no intention of starting again.

About 30 to 60 days.

How about other ways to quit smoking, besides nicotine replacement?
Alabama Tobacco Quitline

Cause I've done some therapy with nicotine patches and no results.

Drink lots of water and tea helped for me, relaxed me.

Also do some exercises routines especially when you're craving for a smoke. Do things to keep yourself busy. Take it easy, talk to people around you, perhaps they won't try and stress you out.
Also this was without any nicotine replacement. So you can do it.
Remeber smoking is NOT an option and you're mind won't even have that temptation as much.
Good luck : )

OK weight gain is almost inevitable after you quit smoking. If I use nicotine patches will it help?
Alabama Tobacco Quitline

I know that if you don't cut down calorie intake or increase exercise level you gain weight when you quit smoking. If I use nicotine patches at least for a while, will they increase my metabolism rate and and avoid weight gain?

Don't worry, any weight gain should normally be only temporary, and it was in my case (many years ago), and I was underweight anyway. Metabolism will adjust accordingly. My doctor told me years ago that your brain decides that your body can make its own nicotine from the consumption of sugar, which is why you will more than likely suddenly desire sweet things after you stop the smoking or nicotine patches. Being aware of this and controlling that urge to buy sweets, lollies and sweet drinks and you should be fine weight wise. Note also that most low-fat foods these days are actually high sugar, but they don't like to tell you that. Good on you for having a go at giving up - It can be done.

Did you find that taking nicotine supplements to help quit smoking reduced your irritability?
Alabama Tobacco Quitline

I recently quit smoking but now I'm super irritable. Will taking nicotine supplements ease the edge? Any other suggestions?

Supposedly the Nicotine is out of your system in 48 hours or so. I think the irritability you feel is missing your beloved habit. It was like I was living life with out an arm or something. I quit for 9 months. The hardest thing to do was anything I associated with the habit of smoking. My friends on my volleyball league smoked, so that was hard when I started the league again. I know for sure the Nicotine was out of my system at that point, but that jealous feeling and irritability was still there. I tried sucking on straws. That helped, believe it or not! I even tried smoking cinnamon sticks, but that didn't work as well as I envisioned. Ultimately I started smoking again, but I firmly believe it was not the Nicotine that I craved. I don't care what the "experts" say. I am quite an expert myself, I have been smoking more than half my life.
