I am an M.D and there are situations in which I can't use the pharmacological approach to quitting. Some have had medication interactions while others simply did not want to add another prescription to their long list of medication. Then I have had patients that were eager to try the patch, Zyban, Clonidine, and or Chantix, but it would worked for about 6 months but when things went wrong in their life, they went back to smoking. Smoking cessation groups, and or psychotherapy can be problematic especially if their insurance won't cover the sessions. I heard recently about Joe Weaver's book the Tao of Quitting Smoking and how it is a spiritual approach to quitting. Has anyone read it. Now, of course I know there is no magic book that works for everyone. I have recommended Allen Carr's book, with not go within: Mind, Body, and Spirit. I have recommended Mr. Weaver's book and have had 1 success for 1.5 years. Looking for other books that you have read, which take a spiritual approach.
I was one of those people, who DID NOT WANT to use medications to quit and I used the book the "Tao of quitting smoking." I have been smoke free for three years. I have recommended the book to friends and one didn't follow the book assignments and went back to smoking, but all of those, who followed the book's instructions have stayed Nicotine Free. The book teaches you how to take back the control and go inward. The book is now common with those into fashion and the model business. I first heard about it from my meditation teacher. The book has a buddhist approach.
Sad thing is that it can only be ordered through special order at the bookstores. I met Joe Weaver, at a book signing in Beverly Hills and I have thanked him for helping me and my husband quit. Joe self-published the book. Joe Weaver was working on his RN degree at the time, and stated he didn't have a lot of time to advertise and do promotions for the book, but he stated in 2008, he will begin to write the 2rd. edition, to the Tao of Quitting smoking. He is the new younger Allen Carr with a more holistic approach. The book is also medical based, so you being a doctor, should have enjoyed reading it. Some parts were too medical for me, but all in all it helped me quit and never go back.

I was told about a book that helps you quit smoking. The author encourages you to smoke while you are reading it but it's supposed to work..Does anyone know the book or authors name?

Has anyone ever bought one of the quit smoking books? Are any of them good?
I tried everything to quit smoking, cold turkey, patches, gum etc but none of these methods even came close to working for me.
Through sheer frustration I decided to come up with my own quit smoking technique and low and behold it worked. Not only did it work but it made the whole quitting process easy. My partner was also a smoker and he saw the results I had so decided to try it out for himself. He managed to quit first time and also found it easy. We have not touched a cigarette since and no longer get cravings of any kind.
We firmly believe that smoking is far more psychological than it is physical. Our system deals with the psychological addiction to smoking. Too many quit smoking products only deal with the physical addiction and that is why the never work.
Once you have dealt with your psychological reasons for smoking, the physical addiction becomes very easy to overcome.
It is our goal to help as many people to quit smoking as we possibly can. Hopefully you will be one of them.

I was given this book from my doctors office dont know ifs from the american cancer socity or not...but its a workbook that brings you thru daiily chores on evaluating your smoking working with the chemical addiction and the habit of smoking...example day one...smoke as many as you need to but record in the book time and what you were thinking and feeling...and so on like keep a can of old buts with a bit of water in it and as the days go buy it has you smell it when you want a cigertte...and days go by it has you only smoking a few a day and it slowing lessens your cravings and makes you look at the habit also and has you not smoke at certain times..and so on it worked for me and i can not quit any other way tried them all...but keeps you in track for 10 days and the last day of smoking you only crave one craving a day and its easier that way to end on the 11 th day
There is this book entitled "Stop Smoking In One Hour" and it comes with a CD that you have to listen to. You're supposed to listed to the CD just once .... and never smoke again. The author is Susan Hepburn. It costs US$16.95.
Here are some of what it says at the back of the book:
"Over 90% of Susan Hepburn's clients have found her techniques 100% successful. Now her unique formula is brought to you in this book and CD.
Play the CD once only and become a non-smoker in one hour. You uwill find there are no side-effects, no cravings and no gimmicks. You will feel: No desire for a cigarette. No withdrawal symptoms, no irritability, no uge to snack between meals.
This formula works regardless of how many years you have smoked or how many a day.
This formula is not reliant upon your having the willpower to give up smoking but you DO NEED TO WANT TO GIVE UP. It won't work if you're simply trying because someone else wants you to......."
