I've been addicted to nicotine for about 4 years now. I smoke 2-3 cigarettes a day and I also dip. I'd like to quit but previous attempts have shown me that complete willpower is absolutely necessary. A friend suggested that we see a hypnotist to quit. I'm skeptical... has anyone had experience with one? If so, did it work?

I was planning on quitting nicotine (chew) this week, but I came down with a nasty head cold (coughing, stuffy nose, etc.) Should I still try to use this week to quit or would it be better for my body to wait until I was healthy. I am just concerned that if my body is trying to repair two things at once my cold will last for longer and the quit will be harder. Any suggestions?
Go ahead and do it now. You're going to feel a bit crummy anyway, so at least you can blame it on the cold. And if you're off work you can just take a nap whenever you want a ciggie. Good luck to you.

I am a quitter! I stopped smoking over 2 years ago after over a decade of smoking.
I went cold turkey.
Here is how I did it.
1. I set a date and placed in the back of my mind. I did not stress the date and I did not even think about it until the day before.
2. Say goodbye to smoking. Seriously, say goodbye. I had a moment with my final cigarette. I turned the TV off. I dimmed the light (I know it sounds romantic) and I just enjoyed 1 last cigarette.
3. When I woke up, I was done! i stopped smoking.
I was angry and depressed and at 1 point in a ball crying. I never gave in. I took control of my will and would not allow myself to give up. Cinnamon candy, lollipops, water (ice cold water), gum all were HUGE aids. i also found a website called QUITNET.COM and it was a god send. It helped me through. it has calculators so you can see your progress (money saved, cigs not smoked, life saved). Great site and highly recommended.
The key to all is you. Do you want to smoke? if so, you will smoke. Do you want to quit? If so you will. Does your will belong to you or a cigarette? If you answered "you" then control it. Do whatever it takes to live without smoking. You will be happy you did,

My life insurance company wants to do a blood test for, among other things, nicotine. I quit nearly five months ago, will it still show up? I'd like to be considered a non-smoker, and I have no intention of starting again.

I started smoking 3 years ago, and i quit. I rarely have one, but I never smoke the whole thing because I'd rather chew the gum. I have been chewing the gum since last July. It's too expensive to keep buying. I don't want to try any other methods, I just want to quit the gum. Any advice?
i started substituting sugar free gum for every other peice of nic gum and slowly weaned off of it. Also if you continue to have one cig then you are wasting your time and money on nicotine gum.
