America's New Addiction!

Congratulations to all americans who have kicked the smoking habit. America has a new shame, Nicotine Gum Addiction! The loud chewing, all the ...

when trying to quit smoking, is it true that you can develop an addiction for the nicotine patch or gum?

i mean while using them for quitting smoking.

Nictone patches are meant to work and take you off cigarettes and hopefully let the habit go. But, they will not help you completely to quite the nictoine addiction. It is a gradual thing and the dosage is lessened with each patch.

For a while you will still be craving for the cigs but the patches should help you with the craving until you get to a stage where the cravings have dimished to a level and you then make up your mind to totally quit for good.

Stying off smoking is more a pshchological battle than anythign else. Using your mind to quit is really the first thing you should start to do. Without mind control it will be just too difficult to quit for good and in no time you will be back to smoking and puffing those white devils.

Goodluck!

Are your patches and chewing gum topping up your addiction to nicotine?

Hello there. I'd been on nicotine gum for about a year (longer then you are supposed to). Nicotine is addictive but remember its waaaaaay better then smoking cigarettes. Go for NRT and be very proud of yourself if it, combined with your willpower, gets you off the fags! Ive now stopped with the gum through chewing the regular kind and i can honestly say i have no desire to smoke or take nicotine in any way ever again. Desired result!

Is nicotine gum dangerous? Can it cause cancer? How do I quit smoking?

I want to quit smoking. I was thinking of different options besides the Rx route. I was wondering is nicotine gum dangerous as in cancerous? I know some people who just switched addictions from ciggs to the gum. Is it the nicotine that causes cancer or the other chemicals in cigarettes? What is the "healthiest" was to quit smoking...besides cold turkey.
Ciggerettes are $6.50 here in TX now...I know what you mean!

tobacco is what gives you cancer, not the nicotine. Also all the other crap. i would go with the gum or patch (gum taste horrible)

What are the risks of nicotine gum for a nonsmoker?

besides addiction. Long term and short

don't be a jerk and question why i am answering the question. Im sick of my questions on here being responded ot with questions. Either answer or don't

Nicotine long term and short term effects would be nearly identical, except for adverse long term effects on the heart.

in a nutshell, it would adversely effect your cardiovascular health, so I wouldn't take it before a football match or anything. (To a LESSER degree than smoking by manyfold of course.) If you are trying to quit smoking, then wean yourself off it w/ gum might not be a bad idea, but its not even close to moderately succesful.

as for recreationally.

I would take it before studying, as it improves memory, but the withdrawal of the nicotine might screw with the nicotinic receptor mechanism. Interesting, huh?

Nice hair.

  • Swedish Angst: Tv4 fail: Public Health Industry silent on snus scandal

Swedish Match - obviously the Bad Guy in tv4's story - is the market leader in Swedish snus; subsequently their products constitute a benchmark as to what snus is all about. So, by all means, Swedish Match is the guy to try and beat up if you're after snus. But then you should at least have better weaponry. Tv4, don't bring a wet rag to a gunfight! Strangely enough, the guys who actually regulate what's written on the products - The National Institute of Public Health, The National Board of Health and Welfare and the Medical Products Agency - were conspicuously absent from the program. Funny, since they are the ones who decide what manufacturers are allowed to communicate on the cans. So what...
