nicotine cravings

I quit smoking and it's been the better part of a month. I'm still having some vicious nicotine cravings on a daily basis.

What can I do to curb them? I tried Nicorette and I didn't like it and I don't like the patch either. Isn't there some other way?

I've heard that if you pour the cigarette ashs & butts in a cup of water stir it around a lil & sniff it it gets rid of the cravings...apparently it's an atrocious smell but I wouldn't know...never smoked, i'm alergic to the smoke in general

how can you curb nicotine cravings without gum or patches?

I have never been a smoker, but I understand it is very difficult to quit so I commend you for quitting!

I found some ideas in the following sites that will hopefully help you ~ the last one is tips from actual smokers and what has worked for them to stave off the cravings.

I just quit smoking cold turkey, and my cravings are pretty bad. Tonight i just took 2 mg clonazepam (the pills were prescribed to me anyway beforehand), in hopes of calming my mind down. Does anyone know if this will help?

It's not going to help you with the nicotine cravings during the day. You need to try the nicotine gum, lozenge, or patch to help with the cravings.

Benzo's are almost as addictive as nicotine so you will only be replacing one addiction with another.

Just fight through the cravings, only the first 3 days are hard and it gets easier and easier.

I quit for 5 months now, those three days of cravings were definitely worth it.

I read on this website that cravings last a lifetime. How is it possible to have cravings say five years later...What is the science behind it? Is that a physical or mental thing? I'm on my third smoke free day and on NRT. Feeling really good so far.

actually most folks i know who have been clean for Years have a vague craving, once in a while.. its not constant, and usually just passes.. but its there i have been quit over 5 years, and occasionally when i pass a smoker it smells tempting... usu sally i gag...lol

congrats on that third day its a biggie, and glad your feeling great, not all can say that in their third day.. you may want to add a support group to your quit plans.. i know support from others was instermental in quitting..
