I recently quit smoking but I have a job interview coming up with a company that is smoke-free and do not hire smokers. So of course they test you for it. I wanted to find out if anyone knew how long nicotine stays in your system after you quit and how long is it detectable? I would appreciate any help with this.
An infrequent user would be in there system for 2-3 days but if you use it daily it could be from 7-14 days!
No knowledge on what you can do to speed the metabolite time up.

I quit smoking on Sunday night at 10pm. Today is Thursday, 4 am (I work night shift) I have not been having the dreaded nictoine withdrawl symptoms as I feared...then it hit me. Is the nicotine still in my system? And how long does it take before it gets out? I heard it was about 3 days that it took to get completely out?
How long does The Nicotine Stay in your System or Blood stream?
Officially it is 48 hours but I say 72-96 hours. That's the thing with nicotine it acts fast but also leaves the body quickly. Some people say "If it leaves the body so quick why do we crave for months" The reason for this is becuase you have associated the feeling of anxiety with smoking and so every time you become anxious you think about smoking but think it must ne a craving for nicotine.
How long can nicotine be detected in blood or urine after quitting smoking?
The byproducts of nicotine can be detected in the blood for up to a month after you stop smoking. This is only of concern if you are in a situation where someone else might want to test you for the presence of nicotine or nicotine byproducts in your system
So if you quit smoking last Sunday; your body should be free of nicotine by today, Thursday. that would be a total of 4 days. However, there are known cases that the byproducts of nicotine could stay in your system up to a month.
if i smoke a ciggarette, how long does it take before i can be tested free of nicotine?
Nicotine will usually clear your system within a day, the byproducts of smoking, namely carbon monoxide and other chemicals in cigarettes, take longer (usually about 2 weeks) to leave the body.
I went on line and purchased a detox kit. I haven't smoked for about 6 weeks. I have an exam scheduled for next week. Has anyone tried those detox kits? Do they really work? Or what do I have to do to make sure that nicotine is not in my system. I believe that I will have blood drawn and a urine test done that night.
The life insurance is obviously not for me I will be dead when it is collected and FYI I do not plan on smoking ever again... And have no plans on dieing anytime soon either. For a smoker it is more than double a non smoker rate. Again I vow to NEVER smoke again...
I agree completely with "domers." I know you're not planning to die -- no one does unless they commit suicide -- but if you die within the first two years of the policy, the insurer will probably find out from your personal physician that you used to be a smoker. If the application asks whether you have "ever" smoked, or if you've smoked within the past year or so, and you lie, the insurer WILL rescind the policy. Your beneficiary will receive nothing and the premiums paid will go to your estate.
Long after the cotinine (the by-product of nicotine) disappears from your blood and urine, the effects of your years of smoking does increase your mortality rate. A higher premium is fair, given what your body has gone through.
So don't chance it. Fess up to being an ex-smoker, pay the higher rate and after you're smoke-free for whatever period of time the company requires, ask for a premium reduction.
ive heard of jobs testing for nicotine use prior to employment. i was just curious if anyone knows how long nicotine stays in the body system?????
Months. Especially over prolonged exposure.
Try drinking more cleansing drinks like tea and water. Also, epson salt baths help draw small amounts of nicotine and tar out of a person's body through the skin.

Hi, I took an AMA quit smoking class and they told us the nicotine is completely out of the body in three days. The feelings of withdrawal, however, will last much longer. They told us that every time you feel that strong urge for a cigarette, tell yourself, “This feeling will pass whether I have a cigarette or not, so I won’t have one.” It really helps. And yes, drink lots of water as it keeps you hydrated, flushes your system of impurities and makes you feel better. Keep your mind busy and change your daily routine also helps. Kudos to you for quitting and Good Luck!
