I've have ordered a chlamydia testing kit online. I know the swab method is more accurate but how likely do you think I will recieve an accurate result?
The accuracy depends on the testing platform used. The self taken swab sample tends to be more accurate than urine, however the difference is small. This is the reason that urine samples are recommended by the NHS for national screening.
If you can get a free test from a freetest.me participating region (see http://freetest.me.uk) rather than your local scheme, you will have the option to request a swab test.
Either way, both urine and swab are accurate, and it's recommended you get tested every 12 months, or whenever you change partner.
Teenagers Ben and Rosie are a young couple, and as their relationship develops they decide to get tested for STIs such as chlamydia.
my friend thinks she may have an STD
my other friend says there is a website she used to get a free testing kit off every 3month or so just to make sure she didnt have chlamydia
im in the UK does anyone know what this website is?
my friend is 27 so is not worried about her parents being contacted
*BUDDA* it is for my friend!
i am in a happy relationship and trying for a baby! i do sleep around
I think I'm right in saying Boots do free ones if you're under 24. Otherwise try the family planning clinic who will test you for free.
Ed> If you do a search for "free chlamydia test kits" there are lots of results, but the free ones are for 16-24yr olds
Today I started with a new doctor. I told her how in December of 2006 I was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis and I was given medication that didn't help. I also explained to her that I'm not able to see a gyno with the insurance that I have unless I'm pregnant.
My doctor explained to me that since the first treatment didn't work out I'd have to start all over again and that she was testing me for chlamydia.
This is shocking me because I took an STD/HIV test in October of 2006 and everything came back negative. I haven't had any sexual contact with anyone since June of 2006 and when I did it was protected each and every time.
Also when I was diagnosed with bacteria vaginosis I was given a thourough pelvic and vaginal exam. If I do have it, which I doubt, how could it be missed?
I really want to know how long chlamydia can be missed and if its even likely that I have it.
Just to add I'm 19 years old.
well if it was from june till october that you didny have vsex and than got checked if should have showed right up, if you had it. unless they misdiagnosed you. which coulod happen if they immediately gave you medication for what they thought you had. if you got medication after your results were back than you defenetly dont have it, unless you've had unprotected sex since you've been checked.

Also, how much would the treatment be for a male for Chlamydia if he did not have insurance?
At some places they charge and some don't, and you won't need any insurance most of the time...you can call this number to get free testings in your area (1-866-RAP-IT-UP) Good luck
I've used one but i'm unsure if the results are correct. Anyone know how accurate they are? I'm going to a GUM clinic to be tested again just in case but i'm scared!
How long does it take for results to come back from a clinic?
I didn't even know they made those...

Chlamydia has been increased in Australia | familyandhomelife.com
Unnerving new research published at the Australasian Sexual Health Conference 2009 has exposed alarming statistics concerning the growing problem of Chlamydia in Australia.
The study focused primarily on travellers, targeting more than 430 backpackers picked at random from numerous hostels scattered across Australia. The test subjects were made up of a roughly equal number of men and women, and people from the UK made up 40% of the total number of travellers.
Each person was quizzed about their sexual activities and drinking habits and then tested for Chlamydia. The results gave a clear indication of the increase in STD’s ‘down under’.
3.9% of the female backpackers tested positive for Chlamydia, compared to 3.1% of the men. Meanwhile, a further 10.1% of the females admitted to having had the disease in the past, along with 7.6% of the males. These results are far above what the national average should be.
